2013 Conference Receives Rave Reviews
Complimentary comments have followed the close of the 2013 NAHO Professional Development Conference in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Conference setting was the Crowne Plaza St. Paul - Riverfront, located directly on the “Mighty Mississippi”.
Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson gave the Opening Keynote Address, Chief Justice Lorie Skjerven Gildea gave the Luncheon Keynote Address and Judge Kevin S. Burke closed the Conference with an address on decision-making that sent all attendees home with new perspectives and information. Each of these speakers emphasized and lent their support to the important work that Hearing Officials perform each day.
The curriculum was timely and in some cases directly on the forefront of the Nation’s agenda with respect to the Affordable Care Act and the State and Federal Health Care Exchanges and Administrative Appeals. Lucinda E. Jesson, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services gave an overview of the Affordable Care Act and, in a related session, led a panel of experts who shared experiences that Minnesota faced in establishing Minnesota’s health care exchange. The Conference offered other interesting, enlightening and well-attended sessions that garnered high energy discussion and participation.
The Sunday evening welcome gathering on the Crowne Plaza 22nd floor venue Windows on the River included a spectacular view, appetizers and made to order grilled Panini sandwiches. This was a great opportunity to get re-acquainted or acquainted with other hearing officials in a friendly casual atmosphere. The Monday luncheon was a welcome break to hear from Minnesota’s Chief Justice. The Tuesday banquet was elegant and featured a wonderful buffet to wrap up the Conference. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and accommodating, which helped to make the NAHO 2013 Professional Development Conference run smoothly. All in all, St. Paul was a wonderful Midwestern site for Conference 2013. NAHO thanks its “ground crew” from our hosts -- the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Office of Administrative Hearings -- for their support and work on behalf of NAHO to make this Conference a success.
