Membership in NAHO

NAHO members are a diverse blend of attorneys and non-attorneys. It especially addresses the interests of adjudicators employed by the agency appearing before them. Members have a broad range of philosophies and experience in administrative law and work in different levels and branches of government agencies and private employers. Anyone with an interest in administrative hearings is encouraged to join and obtain the benefits of membership.

Membership Policy Changes
as of January 1, 2010

The NAHO Board of Directors has approved a new membership policy effective January 1, 2010. Memberships will now be determined on a calendar year basis and will run from January 1 to December 31. As with any transition from one system to a new one, there will be some glitches during the first year or two and we ask your patience during the transition phase. In the long run, the board believes that the new policy will simplify things and avoid confusion, with both the conference registration process and with dues processing for initial and renewal memberships.

As of January 1, 2010, the initial membership fee will go from $35.00 to $45.00 for a one-year membership. The renewal membership fee will remain at $35.00. For groups of ten or more that apply for new membership or renewal membership at the same time, the dues will remain at $30.00 for each of the members in the group, the same as the “old” policy. The three-year membership option will also remain available. Current NAHO members who want to renew their dues for three years will pay a membership fee of $90.00 for three years. As of January 1, 2010, a new member who wants to pay for a three-year membership will pay $105.00 for the initial three-year membership fee. Any member wishing to renew but whose membership has been expired for longer than twelve months will be required to re-apply to NAHO as a new member, paying the new membership fees as described above.

For any new member who joins NAHO at any time during the calendar year and is not part of a group of ten or more joining at the same time, the membership fee will be $45.00, unless the new member joins during the month of a NAHO conference and attends the NAHO conference. In that circumstance, the membership would go from the conference month until December 31 of the year following the conference. For example, if a person joins NAHO in September 2010 and attends the 2010 NAHO conference that month, the new NAHO membership would expire December 31, 2011, rather than December 31, 2010.

For current memberships that would expire during the transition period, there is a special “transition” dues structure. For those members whose renewal membership would expire on or before June 30, 2010, the renewal fee for the transition year of 2010 will be $17.50 (one-half the $35 renewal fee) and the renewed membership will expire on December 31, 2010. For those members whose renewal membership would expire after June 30, 2010, the membership will be considered current until December 31, 2010.

After December 31, 2010, all memberships should come under the new membership policy where all memberships expire on December 31, regardless of when the member joins during the calendar year (with the exception of the new membership in the month of the NAHO conference when the new member also attends the conference).

Starting in November 2010, in November of each year all current NAHO members should receive a renewal notice (dues invoice) for the following membership year, with the renewal fee due by January 31 of the membership year in order for the member to remain in good standing.
